Poetry Stories and Essays

Recovery is often a time of reflection and self exploration. Some people learn things about themselves that they never expected in this very powerful process. In some cases writing really helps clarify your inner voice, and reading what other people have written can also be very inspirational. Below are some recovery poems , stories, and essays written by recovery minded visitors to our website…..

“I AM METH”
(This was written by a young Indian girl who was in jail for drug charges, and was addicted to meth. She wrote this while in jail. As you will soon read, she fully grasped the horrors of the drug, as she tells in this simple, yet profound poem. She was released from jail, but, true to her story, the drug owned her. They found her dead not long after, with the needle still in her arm.)
Please keep praying for our Children, Teens, Young adults. Understand, this thing is worse than any of us realize…

I destroy homes, I tear families apart,
I take your children, and that’s just the start.
I’m more costly than diamonds, more precious than gold,
The sorrow I bring is a sight to behold.
If you need me, remember I’m easily found,
I live all around you – in schools and in town
I live with the rich, I live with the poor,
I live down the street, and maybe next door.
I’m made in a lab, but not like you think,
I can be made under the kitchen sink.
In your child’s closet, and even in the woods,
If this scares you to death, well it certainly should.
I have many names, but there’s one you know best,
I’m sure you’ve heard of me, my name is crystal meth.
My power is awesome, try me you’ll see,
But if you do, you may never break free.
Just try me once and I might let you go,
But try me twice, and I’ll own your soul.
When I possess you, you’ll steal and you’ll lie,
You do what you have to ? just to get high.
The crimes you’ll commit for my narcotic charms
Will be worth the pleasure you’ll feel in your arms.
You’ll lie to your mother, you’ll steal from your dad,
When you see their tears, you should feel sad.
But you’ll forget your morals and how you were raised,
I’ll be your conscience, I’ll teach you my ways.
I take kids from parents, and parents from kids,
I turn people from God, and separate friends.
I’ll take everything from you, your looks and your pride,
I’ll be with you always ? right by your side.
You’ll give up everything – your family, your home,
Your friends, your money, then you’ll be alone.
I’ll take and take, till you have nothing more to give,
When I’m finished with you, you’ll be lucky to live.
If you try me be warned – this is no game,
If given the chance, I’ll drive you insane.
I’ll ravish your body, I’ll control your mind,
I’ll own you completely, your soul will be mine.
The nightmares I’ll give you while lying in bed,
The voices you’ll hear, from inside your head.
The sweats, the shakes, the visions you’ll see,
I want you to know, these are all gifts from me.
But then it’s too late, and you’ll know in your heart,
That you are mine, and we shall not part.
You’ll regret that you tried me, they always do,
But you came to me, not I to you.
You knew this would happen, many times you were told,
But you challenged my power, and chose to be bold.
You could have said no, and just walked away,
If you could live that day over, now what would you say?
I’ll be your master, you will be my slave,
I’ll even go with you, when you go to your grave.
Now that you have met me, what will you do?
Will you try me or not? It’s all up to you.
I can bring you more misery than words can tell,
Come take my hand, let me lead you to hell.

I AM MISTER ALCOHOL
I am more powerful than the combined armies of the world. I have destroyed more men and women than all the wars of the nations;  I am more deadly than bullets, and I have wrecked more homes than the mightiest of guns;  I am the world’s slyest thief.
I steal millions of dollars each year  I spare no one, and I find my victims among the rich and poor alike, the young and the old; the strong and the weak; widows, widowers and the orphans know me I loom up to such proportions that I cast my shadow over every field of labor; I lurk in unseen places, and do most of my work silently
I am relentless; you are warned against me, but you heed not;  I am everywhere – in the home on the street, in the factory, in the office, and on the sea; I bring sickness, degradation and death, and yet few seek to destroy me I destroy and crush,
I give nothing and take all; I am your worst enemy.
 I AM MISTER ALCOHOL.

My Prayer for You, by Jessica K
I sit here and feel, helpless inside, watching another loved one, slowly dying inside,
Unaware of the effects, of the white rocks that posses, and eat up your soul, just like the rest, The rest of the people, that I held so dear, and I had to watch helpless, while my eyes filled with tears, Watch them give in, time after time, watch them slowly changing, from those little white lines,
I sit here and wonder, why god, why, why must  I watch, another friend tell lies,
To try to conceal, the addiction that feeds, on their pure loving soul, just like a disease,
It will turn them into someone, I won’t recognize, please god, please, please hear my cries,
I plead from my soul, with each tear that falls, please take the urge away from them, silence meths voice that calls to them darkly, it’s hard to ignore, but why in the hell, can’t they say no any more?
I am so frustrated; there is nothing I can do, to make them understand, that what I am saying is true, I have seen it too much, I have seen it annihilate, I’ve seen it take a loving heart, and turn it to hate, I have felt the addiction, my own lips uttered the lies, to try to cover up, my hearts urgent cries, Knowing that it will change you, it’s killing me inside, I pray for you this morning, I feel a changing in the tide.
The Lord is watching over you, pulling at your soul, his voice is urging you to stop, listen, and let him take control,
Do not ignore him, he is guiding you today, his voice won’t be silenced, as I continue to pray, kill the demon inside, that possesses my friend; make him know I will help him, until the very end. There is a battle that rages, inside his soul, it’s between good and evil, let the light take control,
I call on an angel, to watch over you, no matter what your decisions, no matter what you do, know that God loves you, I love you too, I want you to win this fight, defeat just won’t do,
You have the strength inside, to have victory over speed, don’t let it take control of you, don’t give in to the need.
All you have to do is pray, instead of take a hit, God will give you what you need, to get through all of it.
Turn to him in times of trial, and when you are weak, He will surely strengthen you, let it be him you seek.
